This week the nurse treated the children for Jigger (chigoe flea) infestation. Jiggers burrow into exposed skin on the feet remain there for two weeks while developing eggs, during which time they swell dramatically, sometimes causing intense irritation and pain. If the Jigger is left within the skin, dangerous complications can occur including secondary infections, loss of nails, and toe deformation.
The photo above is an infestation in one of our children. You can see how badly the nails are affected, and can imagine how painful this is.
We wrestled with posting some of these pictures, but it is important to see the harsh reality of the children.
The kids are so brave and lined up perfectly waiting for their turn to have their feet treated.
Please see our Feeding Program Page for more information on this program.
$3 /child is all it costs for the supplies, nurse and her transportation to treat for Jiggers, but we can't do it alone, we need your help!
For the cost of one coffee, you can help us treat 1 child.
