Shirley Winfield. Social Worker here in BC, accompanied me to Kenya to meet her sponsor children at Mogra. Read about her experience below:
"To say my trip to Kenya and Mogra was amazing would be an understatement. It would become my honor to be a small part of this great organization, where clearly the work done by the staff is done with a heart of love.
From the moment we stepped foot on the grounds of Mogra Rescue Centre, there were smiles and laughter and many hands coming to greet us. Mama Hannah, who is the founder of Mogra along with her husband, is a strong force of advocacy for the children and their needs. She has taken in many children over the past years; her heart is as big as Kenyan skies. She is 'Mama Kenya' and I loved her immediately. These children here are her children, and that was further made evident when we had the opportunity to be a guest at the wedding of one of Mogra's children. (Now all grown up!) We witnessed the outpouring of love for Mama Hannah as she took on her role as the 'Mother', seated at the front of the church, cutting the cake and making a speech.
Each and every one of these 192 beautiful souls at Mogra are treated exactly how Hannah would treat her own, and the children are loved and cared for in exactly the same way by each ‘Mama’ staff person. Along with these many 'Mamas', Tim and Dr. John are an integral part of this team that keeps it running smoothly. (A big thank you to Dr. John for getting medicine for this foreigner when I was under the weather!)
As a sponsor parent to two beautiful children here at Mogra, meeting and spending
time with them was a great joy. They were both happy and healthy, looking forward to starting a new school year next month. For us to be able to meet in person, share small stories, chase the chickens and laugh made for some special memories. I know without a doubt the difference sponsorship makes in their lives and the lives of other children here who are fortunate to have sponsors.
We spent the most of 7 days with these wonderful children and caregivers at Mogra and I look forward to returning one day soon. Once Africa is in your heart, you will always return.
We don’t live our lives in isolation; we are all global citizens whether we think about the concepts of our collective responsibilities or not. The world needs our help. Our world needs our love. If you are touch by the work done by Linked Through Love Foundation and Mogra Rescue Centre, please look at their website and invite a child into your world. Your love does make a difference.
Asante Sana (thank-you)."
